Description
These dual brush pens have a versatile and flexible nylon fiber brush tip on 1 end that creates medium or bold strokes by simply changing brush pressure. The fine tip on the other end is for smooth straight lines or writing. The resilient nylon brush retains its point, stroke after stroke. The ink is water-based and blendable: use 2 colors together, or use the colorless blender pen. The pen tips self-clean after blending so there is no messy clean-up! Use these pens for coloring, rubber stamping, hand-lettering, doodling, journaling, and more. Perfect for fine art techniques. The ink is acid-free, non-toxic, odorless, and non-bleeding. Each package contains 10 pens (9 colored, 1 colorless). Available in a variety of color schemes, each sold separately. Conforms to ASTM D 4236.

This is what was received in the Tombow Portrait Palette that came to me:N00 - BlenderN15 - Black969 - Chocolate977 - Saddle Brown912 - Pale Cherry772 - Blush800 - Baby Pink942 - Tan020 - Peach850 - “Flesh” (sigh...stop. Guess Tombow haven’t heard about Crayola’s lawsuit! And ethical colour naming. Just Stop! Ffs, Not everyone’s flesh is “flesh”Super blendable water soluble ink art pens. They’re great with watercolor brush/water or with either the brush or point side of the blender pen. I have heard that some ppl get different coloursAt least 4 of these pens are extremely light (800, 850, 942 & 020) & 2 are standard (blender/black) personally, I quite enjoy the lightest of colours for blending portraits because you can always add more pigment easily. Using with blender pens and Without water, One still has the control of adding subtle shades. With water/brush these are remarkable and very easy to control pigment level with damp or wet brush due to buildability and blendability. I thoroughly recommend these. I purchased the greyscale set, and opted in for this one too because I liked it so much.Caps for each that fit in the other end and none of mine were dried out. They were new as they ought to have been. Please know that The pic of the cover would not be able to be created using just 10 pens as the portrait on the front cover requires colours not included. So it’s a little misleading as corals, auburns, rust & reds aren’t included. But who cares ?!They’re good pens with a brush side and a pointy side. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars.Absolutely love the vibrant colors. I believe some may have trouble just from water color techniques, but the blending is amazing. You can just use a smudge of the color brush, then use a regular wet paintbrush and it'll blend easily.I bought this set because none of my other dye based markers have a range of skin tones and thought this would be a good starter set for me as I haven't used this brand before but heard great things about it. I really love the quality of these markers. The brush nib is a dream to work with, it lays down color with a full even coverage using brush to paper without any water. There are two browns, a black and caramel color for blending color hair. The flesh tone color is very beautiful as is the blush color. The set also come with a colorless blender which was a bonus. There is a yellow color in the set, which doesn't seem to be a true skin tone but if you layer it with the peach color, it does give realistic skin tones, especially if you lay down the color with water. From the photo, it looks like the yellow was used to create shadows underneath the woman's neck which looks warm and natural in the photo. If you look at the image in the photo on the packaging, I think it gives an unrealistic example of what these markers can do, but for all I know that image was made using these markers by a highly trained and skillful artist. To me it looks airbrushed but don't know for sure. The one thing you need to know is that the colors are highly pigmented so the skin tone colors are too dark to look natural for skin tones. They are more subtle using the blender pen, but look the best when used with water. After I did a test with water I was really happy with the results and the colors do resemble the colors in the photo. I think it would be fun to use these with colored pencils and other media. There is also a "flesh" color from the Zig Real Color Brush Tip Marker line that you can buy individually to add to this set, I think the two brands would work together as they are both dye based markers. I have tried both and think the Tombow is a better quality marker. I found with the Zig that the color does not disperse as well no matter how you use it (with colorless blender, with water, or direct marker to paper.)These are nice water based markers since they include dual tips, but at more than $1.50 per marker, you can do better with other brands that are just as good and also include dual tips such as Ohuhu. I'm not a huge fan of the fine tip since it's scratchy and exacerbates the issue that water based markers have of ripping or pilling the paper. Despite this, I really like the color saturation and smooth texture that can be achieved with the brush tips. The markers also feel very comfortable in the hand to use for long periods of time. For uses where bleed through would be an issue such as planners, journals, and coloring books, there is a bit of ghosting on the back of the page when using darker colors or doing more than one layer. It's not enough to make me not use them, though, but I will definitely have to be cautious of how saturated the paper gets. I have not tried blending, as I don't typically need to when using water based markers, but I imagine that would also cause some light bleed through. In terms of color selection, I would say that this set comes with 3 light skin tones (020, 850, 800) and 3 dark skin tones (942, 977, 969). All of these colors are on the warm side with yellow or pink undertones. There is also 1 dark pink and 1 orange shade that can be used for adding blush or shading to skin (772, 912). The remaining 2 markers are the black and colorless blender. I would happily replace the dark pink, orange, black, and colorless blender that we likely already own from other sets for additional cool skin tone shades. Excellent quality pens. Brush on each is very easy to control, so it is easy to use, to add a pretty coloured highlight to titles, headings and bullet journal trackers. Very good price. These are great - fabulous for doing a quick painting as you don't need water - so they don't make a mess at all. Great for painting outdoors. Lovely colours, too.Love this set. It has all the colours which I require to create texture for skin tones etc.Little expensive but then again it is Tombow.Gorgeous, beautiful and just amazingly comfortable to write with! Perfect for journals, and highlighting as well.
